General Program
- How do I become an Affiliate?
- Sign up for the SmartAffiliate program. You can then access your enablement tools, create your unique referral code, and view your referral activity once your account is activated.
- Can anyone become an Affiliate?
- Yes. Anyone who is at least 18 years old and a United States citizen or legal resident can apply for our Affiliate program.
- Is there a cost to participate in the SmartVault Affiliate Program?
- No. There is no fee associated with the program.
- Can I use SmartVault for free if I become an Affiliate?
- Yes. You can register for our SmartVault Lite plan for free.
- What if I have questions not addressed in this FAQ?

- Are there any other terms and conditions of the SmartVault Affiliate Program?

Referral Process
- What is a referral?
- A referral is defined as someone who signs up for a SmartVault account via a SmartAffiliate link or enters a SmartAffiliate referral code during sign-up.
- How do I earn referral commissions?
- You will receive a commission equal to the first month's payment on any new accounts you refer. For example, if your referred client signs up for a SmartVault Professional Plan with one additional user, you'll receive a commission check for $82. Refer to our Pricing page for more details on qualifying plans and add-ons. For tracking purposes, your referral will either need to have clicked the link from your Web site or blog, or entered in your affiliate code at the time of registration. This ensures that you receive credit.
- If I refer a bookkeeper or accountant, do I earn commission on plans they create for their clients?
- Yes. You will receive a commission equal to the first month's bill on any new account, including add-ons like additional users or the Client User Packs.
- What happens if my referral signs up for SmartVault Lite?
- Commissions are only earned on paying plans. However, if a referral initially signs up for SmartVault Lite (our Free plan) and then upgrades to a paying plan, you will earn a commission equal to the upgraded plan's first month of billing.
- What if my client adds a User Pack or additional user to their account?
- You will earn commission equal to the amount of the account's first bill, including base plan, additional users or Client User Packs. Commission is not paid on any additional add-ons after the first month's billing has occurred.
- Are there a minimum number of referrals required?
- No, you can remain in the program even if you don't refer anyone (though we hope that's not the case!)
- How will my commissions be paid?
- At the end of every fiscal quarter, SmartVault will issue commission checks to any SmartAffiliates who have accrued referrals. Checks will be sent to the mailing address you entered when you registered for your Affiliate account. To update your mailing address, log in to the Web Portal, and go to the Payment Summary page.
Tracking and Promotion
- How do I create my referral code and link?
- After you create your SmartAffiliate account, sign in to the SmartVault portal, click the link for your SmartAffiliate account, and then select the Affiliate Codes and Links tab. Type in the text you want to specify for your referral code, and then click Create Code. SmartVault creates your referral code, along with a corresponding referral link.
- Do I need a Web site to refer people?
- No, a Web site is not required. Although we issue a custom referral link to SmartAffiliates for Web, blog and email use, we also provide the ability for SmartAffiliates to create a unique referral code that can be manually entered during online registration to ensure you receive the proper credit.
- Do I have to put my SmartVault Affiliate link on my site or my blog?
- No, the referral link is only one of two ways SmartVault tracks referrals. If you do not utilize the referral link, referrals MUST enter the unique referral code during online registration so you receive the proper credit.
Commissions and Payments
- How much is the referral commission? Is there a limit to how much commission I can earn?
- Commission for a referral is equal to the amount of the referred account's first monthly bill. For more information, please visit the Pricing section of our site. There are no limits to the amount of commissions a SmartAffiliate can earn.
- Can I earn commission for add-ons (additional users or Client User Packs)?
- Yes. Your commission will be equal to the total amount of the referred client's first monthly bill, including add-ons for users and Client User Packs.
- How can I track my referred accounts and payment information?
- You can track your referred accounts and payment information in the SmartVault portal. Sign in to the SmartVault portal, and then click the link for your SmartAffiliate account. To see a list of your referred accounts, select the Affiliate Summary tab. To see your payment information, click the Payment Summary tab.
- How quickly will I receive my referral commissions?
- Commission checks will be issued within 2 weeks of the end of the preceding quarter.
- Do I have to pay taxes on my commissions?
- Compliance with applicable income-tax laws is your responsibility. SmartVault anticipates sending an IRS 1099 Form annually to SmartAffiliates when required by U.S. tax law.
Referred Customers
- Can my referred clients become SmartAffiliates? How does this affect my commission?
- Yes. The SmartVault Affiliate Program is an open program so anyone you refer may join the program. Commissions are credited to Affiliates based on the unique referral code or custom tracking link utilized by the referral.
- What if my referred clients need help with your product?
- SmartVault provides a robust Learning Center to enable you and your clients to get information on Getting Started and using SmartVault. SmartVault also provides customer service and technical support via phone, email and our online Support Portal.
